They could start by getting rid of the enormous and very beautiful, but completely and utterly redundant, entry lobby. I would not recommend going here until it has had a chance to recover. Additionally the pool was completely closed and there was no indoor alternative. There is no gym or spa to speak of, something we were really disappointed about, plus the condition of the golf courses during our stay was exceptionally poor. The place is undergoing difficulties and I have a lot of sympathy with all hotels after the COVID pandemic but this place does pride itself on being a 5 star resort and it isn't any longer. Hesperia you are a disgrace to the hospitality industry. Friendly and efficient albeit apologetic and embarrassed about the food. On the plus side the service was excellent. The answer was none ……apart from the fresh fruit. The final insult was the dessert menu….we asked which of the half dozen offerings were made in the restaurant. The fillet steak was served so rare a good vet could have got it back on its feet. From watery garlic prawns and packaged Caesar salad to start through to a fillet of sea bass that had obviously been frozen and was served over salted accompanied by a few pieces of boiled cauliflower, carrot and broccoli, and garnished with that perennial horror, a cherry tomato.

So bad that we couldn’t finish a single dish. Where once immaculate white hatted chefs turned out creative and delicious food, there now operates a behind the scenes kitchen totally reliant on poor quality bought in catering food.

The once fabulous Amapola restaurant at the supposedly 5 star Hotel Principe Felipe is now no better than a motorway services cafe thanks to the new owners, the Hesperia group.
